Mariano Chiacchiarini is one of the most interesting artists of his generation. At age 25, he won the 1st prize in the Teatro Colón “J. Martini” Conducting Competition in Argentina and began his international career, leading him to collaborate with the most prominent conductors of today, such as Sir S. Rattle, P. Boulez, P. Eötvös, I. Fischer, D. Gatti, B. Haitink, R. Muti and R. Chailly. Since 2018, Mariano has won the ECHO Music Prize, the German Record Critics’ Award (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik) and the KONEX Prize in Music. Most recently he was selected by Barbara Hannigan’s Momentum Project and appointed as a new member of the German Music Council.

Other accolades include winning the 1st prize at the “E. Rivera” Conducting Competition in Spain, and, also in 2012, he was named a finalist at Concours Chef Résident Orchestre National de Lyon (France). In 2013 he was selected by the Kritisches Orchester Berlin to work with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle in Berlin and in Dresden, among other top-level orchestras. Wide-ranging success in auditions and engagements demonstrates his artistic presence and charisma.

Mariano Chiacchiarini was also recognized with awards by Fondo Nacional de las Artes in Music, UCA Estímulo, UCA Internacional. He received the DAAD scholarship, the scholarship of Accademia Chigiana, Duna Szimfonikus Orchestra Prize, the Mozarteum T. Grüneisen Music Award and was Artist in Residence at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

Even at his young age he has gained considerable experience, having worked with several top-tier international orchestras and ensembles, such as: Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Lucerne Festival Orchestras, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, Russia National Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lyon, National Radio Orchestra of Belarus, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, WDRSO, Staatstheaterorchester Kassel, Bochumer Symphoniker, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchester, German Radio Philharmonic, MusikFabrik and Ensemble Modern, also conducting orchestras from Austria, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, South America and Asia.

He is regularly invited to major festivals and concert halls including the Lucerne Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Young Euro Classic, Accademia Chigiana, Acht Brücken Köln, Donaueschingen Music Festival, Young Classical Series Athens, Bartók Festival and New Talents Cologne, at places as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow, Teatro dei Rozzi of Siena, l’Opéra Bastille, Philharmonie Köln, Athens Parnassos, KKL Lucerne and Zurich Tonhalle, a.o. His concert in China was chosen as Event of the Year and broadcast live worldwide.

Mariano has worked since 2010 as Music Director of the Trier University, since 2009 as Conductor of Ensemble Garage. In 2011, he was named Music Director of Orchester’91 in Hamburg and since 2014 has been made one of the principal Guest Conductors of the National Symphony in Argentina. His engagements with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra began in 2013.

Further evidence of his talent is his special focus on contemporary music and his performances of numerous premieres, such as, in 2011, conducting in the world premiere of the opera Sonntag aus Licht by Stockhausen for the Cologne Opera and in 2012 conducting the Taschenopern with Ensemble Garage.

His conducting has also been recorded in many CDs productions and Radio Broadcastings as WDR, SR, SWR, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Radio Berlin, German Radio (Deutschland Funk), Radio France, Radiotelevisione Svizzera, National Radio Belarus, Radio Nacional Argentina, etc.

Mariano Chiacchiarini was born in 1982 in Buenos Aires, and he comes from an Italian family, feeling equally connected to European and South American culture. He received his Master’s Degree in Orchestral and Choral Conducting with Gold Medal Honors at Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires and the Master’s Degree in Conducting with Prof. M. Luig at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in 2010, also graduating with High Honors.
